When Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022, calls for assistance flooded in—but the supply chain was overwhelmed. USUF had foreseen these logistical challenges, so we assembled a Humanitarian Assistance Coalition chaired by Ambassador Temuri Yakobashvili to identify unfilled needs and urgent problems and deliver desperately-needed aid throughout Ukraine.
In this effort, Coalition members are organizations with whom we have a direct working partnership, such as the Afya Foundation, the Revival Foundation, United Help Ukraine, and the American Hospital Association. We are also establishing a communication network of other trusted individuals and organizations to assist us with these humanitarian efforts.
The top priority of the Coalition is to secure air transport for the many offers of priority medical supplies and get them to the people of Ukraine in great need through an established distribution network.
Operation Ukraine Airlift was the first project of the Foundation and the Coalition. With partners including the Afya Foundation and March of Dimes donating critical medical supplies, and the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation tackling logistics and the cost of air transportation, Operation Ukraine Airlift had its first flight in the air six days after Putin's first attack. This shipment was flown to Poland for forward trucking to the Military Hospital in Kyiv. Operation Ukraine Airlift continues to work with organizations in the U.S., Europe, and Ukraine to get medical equipment and essential supplies where they are needed most.
Since March 1, USUF and Coalition members have shipped 100 tons of emergency assistance worth over $10 million.

We're expanding our Humanitarian Assistance Coalition, both inside Ukraine and around the world, to most accurately understand the immediate needs in Ukraine and establish the most secure and efficient supply chains. In this effort, we're prioritizing humanitarian aid and services sourced within Ukraine in order to bolster the Ukrainian economy and ensure constructive support and intentional rebuilding.
