To Chernivtsi, Ukraine, With Love From Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

May 5, 2022

On May 4th, we successfully delivered 11 pallets of urgently needed medical supplies to hospitals in Chernivtsi. For these particular supplies, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Penn State Health Organization (and especially Brian Schneider and Walter Alexander). Recognizing both the great need of the people of Ukraine and their unique position to help, they stepped up and gathered life-saving medical supplies. Then, they worked with us and our enduring partners to arrange this most recent Ukraine airLIFT.

While preparing the Penn State Health Organization’s timely donation for export, U.S.-Ukraine Foundation staff were actively working inside Ukraine, and our local contacts helped us to find where we could send such supplies in order to best serve the people of Ukraine. Chernivtsi—a city of about a quarter million in south-western Ukraine—demonstrated a clear need we could fill.

While successfully liaising with Oleksandr Plachynta of the Chernivtsi Chamber of Commerce and with Andy Hunter of the US Chamber of Commerce, we arranged Customs Clearance and Delivery in Chernivtsi. Then, we sent the medical supplies on their way.

The Airlift reached Chernivtsi and went straight to the City Council’s warehouse, from where Chernivtsi Hospital and other nearby medical care facilities can safely receive the aid and continue to treat the people of Ukraine.

We would like to thank all involved for their efforts in making this humanitarian aid donation a success, particularly Megan Cundari and the American Hospital Association. However, we would also like to note that this delivery is only one part of our ongoing Project Ukraine Airlift! We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate to provide humanitarian support, and we are grateful to our ongoing partners participating in the Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Coalition.
