Forget-me-not flower as a symbol of Ukrainian children stolen by Russia

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation has embraced the Forget-me-not flower as a symbol of Ukrainian children stolen by Russia—and of all victims of Putin’s brutal war.

Thousands of children have been torn from their families, told their homeland has abandoned them. We want them—and the world—to know the truth: they will never be forgotten.

The Ukrainian government and international partners are working tirelessly to bring these children home. But the abductions are just one part of the wider tragedy. Millions of Ukrainians continue to suffer under Russian aggression.

But the plight of abducted children is only one part of the larger tragedy of Putin’s war. We also stand with and fight for all victims of Russian aggression. The Forget-me-not serves as a symbol of remembrance, justice, and hope for all who have suffered.

Forget Not the Children

  • Killed or wounded in attacks
  • Abducted and taken to Russia or the occupied territories
  • Re-educated and subjected to forced Russification
  • Militarized and exploited for propaganda

Forget Not the Victims of sexual violence committed by russian soldiers:

  • Civilian men, women, and children

Forget Not the Prisoners of war (POWs): Military, Civilian men, women, and children

  • Mistreated and denied basic rights
  • Tortured or executed

This is what Russian captivity does. Mykhailo Dianov’s before and after speaks louder than words.

To strengthen these efforts, we call for building an international coalition to demand accountability. The Government of Ukraine has already identified and sanctioned 260 individuals and 68 entities directly involved in the systemic abduction of Ukrainian children. Other countries, however, have lagged behind in taking similar measures.

While we may not yet be able to rescue every child, we can make sure they know they have not been forgotten. By holding perpetrators accountable through sanctions and international pressure, we affirm our commitment to justice and to the eventual return of every child.

The Forget-me-not reminds us of our duty: to remember, to seek justice, and to fight for hope.

You will now see the Forget-me-not in the background of all our emails dedicated to these issues — a constant reminder of our commitment to these victims and a call for continued global attention until there is justice for each of them.

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation calls for an international coalition dedicated both to securing the return of all abducted children and to pressing for sanctions against those responsible for atrocities committed against prisoners of war, civilians, and other victims of Putin’s war.

Your support helps shine a light on these crimes and ensures the world does not look away. Together, we can help Ukraine defend its children, its people, and its future.
