Ukrainian Peacekeeping Efforts

Since Ukraine’s independence, over 44,000 members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have taken part in 26 peacekeeping missions in support of the United Nations, NATO, and other international organizations. 55 honorable servicemen and women lost their lives during these efforts to keep the world safe. The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation has memorialized the stories of four of them–– PFC Ruslan Androshchuk, SSGT Vira Petryk, SSGT Oleh Denysiuk, and 1LT Ihor Kynal. At present, these operations persist through participation in the International Peacekeeping Force in Kosovo (KFOR), the Ukrainian Peacekeeping Operation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the United Nations operation in Côte d’Ivoire, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), and joint peacekeeping in the Security Zone of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
