Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the First Human Flight into Space

April 12, 2021 marked the 60th anniversary of the First Human Flight into Space by Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin. Although this was a successful Soviet Union project, it was the effort of a talented multinational team headed by a Ukrainian - Chief Designer and Head of the Soviet Space Program Serhiy Korolyov.

Today, Ukraine continues to make significant contributions to the aerospace industry by cooperating in many international space projects: Antares, Alpha, Artemis and others.

Join Our Special Guests discussing the role of Ukrainian scientists and designers in the Soviet rocket program and current U.S.-Ukrainian cooperation in space exploration and technology development:

H.E. Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to USA

Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs

Volodymyr Taftai, Head of State Space Agency of Ukraine

Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, U.S. Navy Captain and Astronaut (Ret.)

Brian Odom, Acting Chief Historian at NASA

Simultaneous interpretation between English and Ukrainian will be provided.
