Between August 19th and 25th, Russian forces committed 26 ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine, according to the Joint Forces Operation. Unfortunately, 4 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, and 2 more injured, as result of this Russian aggression.
Ukrainian forces have lately focused intently on providing security guarantees for infrastructure repairs and humanitarian aid to residents in eastern Ukraine, such as the restoration of water pipes and the delivery of Red Cross humanitarian supplies. On August 22nd, Joint Forces leadership participated in the launch of the radio-television transmission station “Komyshuvakha”, which will provide signal coverage of Ukrainian broadcasters to the territories of Luhansk and Donetsk for at least 200,000 people.
On August 23rd, Ukraine celebrated National Flag Day, as well as hosted the inaugural Crimea Platform Summit. 45 countries confirmed attendance at the Summit and all EU, NATO, and G7 members were represented. Additionally, an official Crimea Platform office opened in Kyiv for the organization’s continued work.
Ukraine marked its 30th anniversary of independence on August 24th with a military parade in central Kyiv, festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and more. The Independence Day parade included more than 5,000 military personnel, 400 vehicles, and 100 aircraft. In the Dnipro River, the Ukrainian Navy demonstrated a group of Gurza-class gunboats, the results of the first stage of Ukraine’s pledge to build a large fleet by 2035 in order to unblock the Black Sea region. President Zelensky also delivered an Independence Day address in the central square of Kyiv, Maidan Nezalezhnosti, in which he highlighted the history and success of Ukraine, “a young country with a thousand-year history.”
Among the 45 foreign delegations that came to Kyiv for the Crimea Platform Summit, several visited the area of operations of the Joint Forces in eastern Ukraine throughout the week. The Swiss Confederation delegation, a joint delegation of the Estonian Republic and the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the delegation of the European Parliament, Advisor to the European Institute of Peace Robert Serry, and Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexander Polishchuk all visited border checkpoints and the line of contact in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Joint Forces Operation noted that this allowed the various delegations to see the effects of Russian aggression and work of the Ukrainian military for themselves.
