Rally for Religious Freedom on Capitol Hill
July 23, 2018 @ 4:00 pm
Every year, the third full week of July is declared Captive Nations Week in the United States, as established in 1959 by Public Law 86-90. This year, the US State Department is convening the first ever Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom in Washington DC on July 24-26. Between Captive Nations Week and the State Department religious freedom convention, The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation will draw attention to religious persecution of captive nations in Asia because the situation there is dire.Over a million Uyghur Muslims in East Turkestan are currently in concentration camps in China because of their religion; priests, monks, and Protestant pastors in Vietnam are being beaten and jailed for leading marches; and since 2009, over 150 Tibetan Buddhists have self-immolated in protest of China’s continuing occupation and repression of Tibet. We must not let them down. Join us! Here are some of the incredible speakers who will address our rally: Dolkun Isa, President of the World Uyghur Congress and VOC Human Rights Award laureate Bhuchung K. Tsering, Vice President, International Campaign for Tibet Pastor Nguyen Cong Chinh, former prisoner of conscience in Vietnam Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) Rep. Alan Lowenthal (D-NY)
