Putin’s Oppression within Russia and Aggression Towards Ukraine Intertwined

Friday, January 21, 9:00-10:00 AM East Coast Time

16:00 - 17:00 Kyiv Time

The media is full of reports and opinions about what Russia is doing in on Ukraine’s border, in Kazakhstan, and Iran, and now-and-then mentions Moldova, Georgia and Armenia. There is very little coverage of Putin’s very aggressive actions within the Russian Federation and even less about how all of his moves are connected.

This discussion between Paul Goble and David J. Kramer will explore the critical connections between Putin’s foreign and domestic policies and actions.

Paul Goble ImagePaul Goble's extensive background includes being a Special Advisor to the Secretary of State (several times) and a former Senior Advisor to the Director of Voice of America.  Among other things, Paul is an extraordinary resource, to those who try to follow developments in the Russian Federation and Eurasia including, of course, Ukraine.

David Kramer ImageDavid J. Kramer is Managing Director for Global Policy at the George W. Bush Institute. He recently taught at Florida International University and previously served as U.S. States Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor in the George W. Bush administration and President of Freedom House.
