Getting Out from In-Between

June 12, 2018 @ 10:00 am

At the core of the dispute between Russia and the West is the contest over the countries physically located between them: Ukraine first and foremost, but also Belarus, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. While the relationship between Russia and the West was far from ideal before 2014, it was the Ukraine crisis that fundamentally changed that relationship. The contest over the “in-between” states has also taken a significant toll on these states themselves. The RAND Corporation, with support from Carnegie Corporation of New York, and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung are partnering on a project to reconsider approaches to the regional order so as to more effectively address these challenges. The project released an edited volume in March; a second report will be launched at this event. Speakers: **Amb. Oleksandr Chalyi, President, Grant Thorton Ukraine **Samuel Charap, Senior Political Scientist, RAND Corporation **Amb. James Dobbins, Senior Fellow, RAND Corporation **Yulia Nikitina, Associate Professor, Moscow State Institute of International Relations **Jeremy Shapiro, Research Director, European Council on Foreign Relations The newest publication will be available at the event. Tuesday, June 12,  10:00 am – 11:30 am Woodrow Wilson Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004> FOR MORE INFORMATION: To register: http://pages.wilsoncenter.org/20180612-InbetweenEurope_Registration.html https://www.linktank.com/event/getting-out-from-in-between
